Rwanda and Sao Tome e Principe, a vibrant cooperation.

The Democratic Republic of Sao Tome e Principe is composed of two islands located in the Gulf of Guinea and the smallest country of Africa with a surface area of 964 sq.kms and a population of   219.000 by mid-2020. The country won independence from Portugal in 1975. The President of the Republic, Evaristo do Espirito Santo Carvalho, won elections in August 2016.

Bilateral relations between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome e Principe were revived on occasion of a private visit of the then Prime Minister of STP, Patrice Emery Trovoada who was received by H.E. President Paul Kagame in December 2016. One month later, a large delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mrs. Louise Mushikiwabo visited STP where they were received by the President and the Prime Minister and signed a General Cooperation Agreement and a Protocol on Political and Diplomatic Consultations.
